What Happens on the First Call

On the first call we listen to what is going on, take the practical details, and start coverage verification. Have your Medi-Cal or insurance card nearby if you can find it; if not, your name and date of birth are usually enough to begin.

The Clinical Assessment

A 10 to 15 minute ASAM-based phone assessment covers symptoms, history, substance use, medications, and safety, then recommends a level of care. If the assessment shows you need a level we do not provide, residential or inpatient treatment in either lane, we tell you directly on that call and help you find it.

Coverage Before Commitment

We verify benefits before you commit to anything. Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. Medi-Cal on any of San Diego County's four managed care plans can cover treatment at no cost when clinical criteria are met, because both clinical lanes are administered through the county systems. Commercial coverage is confirmed by our admissions team the same way: what is covered, what is not, and any out-of-pocket cost, before you start.
