Why Golden Coast Rehab

Most outpatient centers in San Diego County treat either mental health or substance use. Golden Coast Rehab is contracted and certified for both, which means co-occurring conditions get treated by one team rather than split across two referrals and two waiting lists.

That is the short version. Here is what actually distinguishes this program, including the parts that are limits rather than selling points.

Both lanes, one clinical team

Golden Coast Rehab is a contracted provider of Specialty Mental Health Services (Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program) for the County of San Diego, Behavioral Health Services, under County Contract 575462. Golden Coast Rehab also holds California Department of Health Care Services substance use disorder certification 370254AP for outpatient detoxification, outpatient, intensive outpatient, and medication-assisted treatment, expiring 02/29/2028.

Built for Medi-Cal, not adapted to it

Plenty of good treatment exists in San Diego County for people who can pay for it. Considerably less exists for people whose coverage is Medi-Cal, and not because those people need less care. Being a contracted County provider means any Medi-Cal beneficiary in San Diego County who meets clinical criteria can be treated here, whichever of the four managed care plans they hold — because specialty mental health and Drug Medi-Cal services are administered by the County rather than by the plans. We say no accurately

We are an outpatient provider. We do not offer residential or inpatient treatment in either lane, and there is no substance use partial hospitalization program here. When an assessment shows that someone needs a level of care we do not provide, we say so on the call and help them find it. That conversation is free and carries no obligation.

An honest no is worth more than an admission that wastes three weeks of someone's life.

Treatment that fits around a life

Outpatient care means you sleep at home and, in most of our programs, keep working or studying. That is not a compromise on intensity — it is how recovery gets practiced in the conditions you actually live in, with a clinical team available while you do it, rather than in a setting you eventually have to leave.

Staffed so a clinician knows your name

As of July 2026 the program is staffed at two clinicians for every five clients, a ratio we review as the program grows. We publish it as a ratio rather than a number of openings, because it describes how closely you are actually worked with, which is the part that changes your treatment.

Telehealth is available, and whether any part of your care happens by video is decided with your clinical team. Most of our programming happens in the room at La Mesa, and where video keeps someone in treatment who would otherwise drop out — a work shift, a transport problem, a week of illness — we would rather use it than lose the week.

Straight answers about what we have and have not published

You will not find fabricated statistics, invented success rates, stock testimonials, or a wall of insurance logos on this site. If we have not verified something, we have written around it. That standard costs us some marketing copy and it is worth it in a field where inflated claims are routine.
