8809 La Mesa Blvd., Suite 102, La Mesa, CAOpen in Google Maps
Lakeside sits north-east of us in East County, and clients from Winter Gardens, Eucalyptus Hills, and the surrounding area travel to our facility at 8809 La Mesa Blvd., Suite 102, La Mesa, CA 91942. We do not operate a facility in Lakeside.
The drive is straightforward, and for East County generally we are among the closer County-contracted outpatient options.
Getting here from Lakeside
Driving: State Route 67 south to Interstate 8, then west toward central La Mesa. State Route 52 and State Route 125 are alternatives depending on which part of the community you are starting from.
Transit: Lakeside is not served directly by the trolley. MTS bus routes connect to the El Cajon Transit Center and the Green Line, which reaches the Grossmont Transit Center and the Orange Line from there. If you do not drive, this is a longer trip and worth raising with us when you call — transportation problems are common and usually solvable.
Winter Gardens and Eucalyptus Hills
Winter Gardens, the community's commercial core along Woodside Avenue and Highway 67, has the most reliable bus connection into El Cajon. Eucalyptus Hills, in the hillier terrain to the north, has fewer through streets and generally means a longer drive to reach Highway 67 in the first place before the route into La Mesa even begins. Anyone in that part of Lakeside without a car should expect the bus-to-trolley trip to take considerably longer than the driving time and should plan accordingly.

State Route 67 as the backbone of the trip
Highway 67 is the road most Lakeside residents rely on, whether heading south toward Interstate 8 or connecting to SR-52 for an alternate route through Santee. It carries a meaningful amount of daily commuter traffic, so trip times shift more with rush hour than they do for communities closer to La Mesa. Building in extra time during weekday mornings, rather than assuming off-peak drive times, avoids arriving late to a program with a fixed start.
Riverford Road and the older parts of Lakeside
The area around Riverford Road and Lakeside's older commercial strip sits close enough to Highway 67 that residents there face roughly the same drive as Winter Gardens. This part of the community has historically been the center of Lakeside, and its proximity to the highway makes it a reasonable point of comparison when weighing where in Lakeside a given trip will start.
Programs available from our La Mesa office
We are contracted under County Contract 575462 to provide Specialty Mental Health Services — PHP and mental health IOP — for San Diego County Behavioral Health Services, and certified under DHCS 370254AP for outpatient substance use disorder care, described on our addiction treatment programs page: detox, outpatient, intensive outpatient, and medication-assisted treatment. We do not offer residential or inpatient care under either authorization.

Planning a program day from Lakeside
Because Highway 67 traffic is less predictable than the shorter routes closer communities use, some Lakeside clients build a buffer into their morning rather than timing the drive exactly to program start. It is a small adjustment, but it matters more here than it would for someone driving a few minutes from central La Mesa, and it is worth mentioning at your first call if a fixed start time is a concern.
Medi-Cal and Lakeside residents
Specialty mental health and Drug Medi-Cal benefits are administered by San Diego County Behavioral Health Services on a countywide basis rather than by individual health plans, so any of the county's four Medi-Cal managed care plans work the same way for Lakeside residents, at no cost to you when clinical criteria are met. More on our Medi-Cal page.
Crisis and County resources
The San Diego County Access and Crisis Line is answered day and night at 1-888-724-7240 for free, confidential connections to urgent support or other County providers, whether or not you contact us afterward. For an active crisis, 988 reaches the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by call or text, and 911 is right when someone's safety is in immediate danger.
