8809 La Mesa Blvd., Suite 102, La Mesa, CAOpen in Google Maps
Golden Coast Rehab serves the city of San Diego from our facility in La Mesa, immediately east of the city line. We do not operate a facility in San Diego itself — clients travel to 8809 La Mesa Blvd., Suite 102, La Mesa, CA 91942.
For most of the city's central and eastern neighborhoods that is a short trip. From North Park, Kensington, Normal Heights, City Heights, or Mission Valley, La Mesa is a straightforward run east on Interstate 8. From downtown or the coastal neighborhoods it is further, and worth factoring in if you will be attending several days a week.
Getting here from San Diego
Driving: Interstate 8 east is the direct route from Mission Valley and the central neighborhoods, exiting toward central La Mesa. From south of the city, State Route 94 connects to SR-125 north.
Transit: the MTS Orange Line trolley runs from downtown San Diego east through Encanto and Lemon Grove to the La Mesa Boulevard station. The Green Line through Mission Valley meets the Orange Line at the Grossmont Transit Center, one stop east of us. For a large part of the city, this is a single-seat or one-transfer trip.
Which San Diego neighborhoods have the shortest trip
City Heights, Talmadge, and the eastern edge of Mission Valley sit closest to the city line and to Interstate 8's route into La Mesa — for residents there, the drive is comparable to a cross-town errand rather than a commute. North Park and Kensington add a few more minutes but stay on the same corridor. Residents further out, in neighborhoods like Clairemont, Pacific Beach, or Point Loma, are looking at a longer freeway trip either on I-8 or via Interstate 5 and SR-163, and should weigh that honestly against a program that meets multiple days a week.
Downtown San Diego is a special case worth naming directly: it has the best transit connection of any part of the city, since the Orange Line begins there, but the driving trip through surface streets and onto I-8 takes longer than the mileage suggests. If you work or live downtown, ask us about which travel pattern — trolley versus car — fits your schedule better when you call.

Working while attending from San Diego
Because IOP runs mornings only, some San Diego clients arrange it around a job with an afternoon start, or use PTO for the PHP block, which runs longer each day. That is a conversation for admissions rather than something to guess at from a webpage — every employer and every clinical situation is different, and we would rather talk it through with you than make a promise here we cannot keep.
Weighing distance against a specific program's schedule
San Diego is large enough that the honest answer to "how far is it" changes block by block, which is different from smaller communities on this list where one answer covers the whole city. If you are unsure how your specific address compares, describe your neighborhood when you call rather than relying on a general estimate — admissions can speak to it more precisely than a page written for the whole city can.
Our programs, offered from one address in La Mesa
As a contracted Specialty Mental Health Services provider under County Contract 575462 with San Diego County Behavioral Health Services, we operate PHP and mental health IOP for adults, typically about six weeks in length, determined clinically. Separately, DHCS certification 370254AP covers our outpatient addiction treatment programs: detoxification, standard outpatient, intensive outpatient, and medication-assisted treatment. We are outpatient only — no residential or inpatient beds — and for a specific diagnosis, our mental health condition pages go into detail this location page leaves out.

Medi-Cal coverage for San Diego residents
Living inside city limits does not change which system administers your behavioral health benefit: San Diego County Behavioral Health Services runs specialty mental health and Drug Medi-Cal services County-wide, independent of which of the four managed care plans you carry, so treatment here can be at no cost to you when you qualify. See how Medi-Cal works here for the specifics.
If you need help before your first appointment
The County's Access and Crisis Line takes calls day and night at 1-888-724-7240, connecting callers to urgent behavioral health support or to other County providers regardless of whether you follow up with us. In a mental health emergency, 988 reaches the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by phone or text, and 911 is the right call when someone's safety is at immediate risk. Our own line, (858) 925-8589, is answered around the clock for questions about fit and admission.
